Gloucester Cathedral Visit
The Cubs met in the Cathedral car park and were split into two groups with each allocated a guide.
The climb up the 269 steps of the tower got everyone’s hearts beating. This was good preparation for the excellent lofty view of the City from the top. The bells were inspected on the way up including Great Peter, Britain’s only surviving medieval great bell.
We then were shown around the Cloisters, as luck would have it the sunlight that evening was perfect to provide a stunning lightshow from the stained glass windows across the intricately carved stone walls (see photograph to left).
Further highlights were the tomb of Edward II, the Lady Chapel, the East window and the crypt.
