1st Newent Scout Group Awards Evening

Local MP Mark Harper was a welcome guest at 1st Newent Scout Group annual Awards Evening held on Friday 9th November. Along with local mayor Mr Roger Beard, County Commissioner Mr Paul Trott, District Commissioner Mr Martin Williams and Mr. Derek Pavey District Chairman the parents and friends of the Scout Group were treated to a mixture of songs, humorous sketches and hand bell ringing.  The Beavers sang a campfire song with actions which amused everyone present and the Cubs performed a traditional camp fire song in sign language with the help of Rosemary Morgan, a representative of the Gloucestershire Deaf Association. The Scout hand bell ringers ended the evening with a moving rendition of Pacabel’s Canon in D.

Notable achievements recognized during the evening were to Heather Hill who was presented with the Queens Scout award, the highest award that can be achieved by a Scout by PaulTrott, County Commissioner and Harriet and Georgie from the Beaver Colonies were presented with their Chief Scout Bronze awards by Martin Williams, District Commissioner. Diana Hunt was also presented with her Wood Badge in recognition of her completing all her training as a Leader.  Martin also presented many badges to those Beavers, Cubs and Scouts who attended the Awards Evening.
